lady_phenyx: Lucy from I Love Lucy waving a bottle. (I need a drink)
I have nowhere else really to post this, so...going ahead to say this here.

I had a virus on this computer. Now, as far as I & the person helping me can tell, it's been gotten. However, a lot of my space is missing - I think it's from the system restores made before I figured out it was a virus, since none of my scanners picked up anything, even Malwarebytes - but I've never made this many in this short a time before, so it's hard to tell.

I've managed to clear out most of the space I lost, but now I keep waiting for the next shoe to drop. I have this feeling that something else is going to happen, and it won't go away. It's rather miserable. I keep watching everything like a hawk, especially firefox - it would go to 100% CPU usage within five minutes of being opened, which is how we figured out it was a virus - and I get worried each time it does. Thing is, before this all happened, it would sometimes go to 100% and need shut down anyway.

This whole thing has thrown off my plans - I was going to work on putting up decorations and start doing my prompts again, but now I'm scared to. Oh, and my DVD burner isn't working anymore for me to make my backups, so I'm stuck with a flash drive and hope that we get a new computer around here so I can transfer my stuff to it and burn it.

Just needed to get that off my chest, and this seemed the place to do it.

Weelp, knew I'd gone too long without a computer problem. Dad had a bad virus yesterday, so I thought that was gonna be it - but I accidentally updated Firefox. My computer didn't care for it, and I hated how it looked. Shallow, maybe, but...it's important to me. It would have bothered me every time I surfed if it looked that way. So I restore...and it still looks wrong. Go back further, still the same! What should have been a quick fix was getting complex. -_-
In the end, it turned out that somehow, my theme - Firefox 3 for Firefox 4+ - got uninstalled. I have no idea how. But it's back in, and it's all better. But for such a simple fix, it was really aggrivating.

In other news, I'm working hard on my writing. My novel Blessed Chosen is going to be twice as long by the time I'm done, lol. And I have four others to re-write...and Nano is coming up! Hoo boy.

Also, trying to get ready for craft shows. I have...nothing ready. I'm going to be making hats, pop can flowers, and necklaces, plus making a new display - if I can get the hardware. I'm running out of time, in a major way. Not easy - but I'm gonna do my best.

Yeah, so, another fun time.

I was checking my gmail, and got one of the script error boxes. Fine, go to the start page. Well, as soon as I do that, Avira guard shuts down. This time, though, I get an error message. (The one about trying to reference memory that cannot be read.) So I try and get it open again. It doesn't want to. Eventually, four windows opened - and would not respond. I tried to open My Computer before it happened, and after they opened, a minute later it did. I closed it, and everything but the wallpaper went away. I used task manager to close the not-responding Avira, and most of my icons in the taskbar were missing when it came back. So I told it to restart, but it was just sitting there - so I hard restarted it.
When it turned back on, I was missing Cacheman. I tried to get it to open, but the main icon just wouldn't. So I turned the computer off again. It takes a long time to start up, but it did - normally. So I think it's normal again, but - argh shaking like a leaf for a bit there. So not good.
I think I may get to go look around for RAM next week, and it won't be a minute too soon. I just hope it fixes everything.

Got more computer upsets. :(

So, something else has gone wrong in here. It happened about a month ago, I thought I had fixed it, and it's back.

My antivirus randomly closes itself.

I have Avira, which is a little umbrella in my taskbar. The umbrella closes, Windows Security Alerts pops up, and about two minutes later the umbrella opens back up and Avira Guard is back on duty.

The forum suggested getting rid of WinPatrol, so I did, and it worked for a month.

Each time, it says "the resource 'ThreadInit' could not be allocated'.

Well, guess what I can't find any information on.

It's not malware, I know that much - I've scanned with Malwarebytes, Trojan Remover, Hitman Pro, and SuperAntiSpyware.

I'm questioning Microsoft .NET framework, since it's the only thing I know I installed that may have something to do with it, 'cuz all I can find are references to coding when I look for ThreadInit.

I really don't want to use a different antivirus, I just want the computer to stop misbehaving. And I don't want to reformat - though I do have a different disk now for it, I just don't want to. This year just sucks for my computer, I hate it.
