This one's going to be a bit bitchy.

'Cuz this one is gonna be ranty.
I'm trying to get help with my computer's start up. It always hangs on the 'Welcome' screen and on the wallpaper, and then it hangs on the taskbar, then the icons show up, then the programs start loading. It takes about five minutes to get to that point.
So I'm trying to get some help 'cuz it's bugging me.
The 'help' I'm getting keeps insisting things like how I should never have installed XP on this machine since it only has 256 RAM right now (never mind that's what it came with, and works fine) and that the only things that should load are firewall, antivirus, and audio. Look, idiot, I can't have internet if the program to connect doesn't load! The other programs do things like protect the hard drive from shocks, and monitor my RAM and CPU usage. NOT NEGOTIABLE. I've taken it down as far as I'm willing, quite being an ass!
Besides, it's not those programs slowing it down, I'm fairly sure. If it were, why did it happen so suddenly? It happened back in June - on day, starts up fairly quick, next day slow. Took this long to try and do something about it, so restoring is out of the question.
The only other suggestion has been to do a clean install. Overkill much? That's for dramatic failure, not an irritation like a six-minute start up.
*sigh* I've made one thing that I found that loads up into manual instead of automatic, see if that helps. Still figuring out autoruns - guess I should go look it up some more.
Just needed to let it out or explode, or say it on the help forum, which would not be helpful.
